The Future: Tutoring and AI

Hey guys, this week’s article we are exploring one of the biggest shifts happening in education right now: the rise of AI tutoring and what it means for real tutors.

AI is no longer a future concept. Students are already using it for instant explanations, revision help, homework support, and practice questions. At the same time, more education companies are building AI learning tools that go directly to students and parents.

This is where the concern begins. Let’s take Chegg for example, once one of the biggest names in online tutoring support, saw its market value collapse as students started turning to tools like ChatGPT for help. It was a warning sign for the entire education industry: when AI gives students a faster and easier option, even established education companies can struggle to stay relevant.

The same shift is now slowly reaching tutoring. In a recent study completed by The Guardian, they found that 98% of students have used, and are actively using, AI tools to aid their learning.

So what does this mean for tutors? And no it does not mean tutors are going to disappear. But it does mean student and parent expectations are changing, especially as more companies launch AI tutor products directly for students and parents. Learning support is becoming more instant, more personalised, and more available outside normal lesson times, with tools that can answer questions, explain topics, create practice tasks, and support revision on demand.
